Bowen Plus For Horses

What is Bowen Plus for Horses?
Bowen plus for horses is designed to relieve joint and muscle pain in horses by aligning and balancing the horse’s muscular/skeletal system. The therapy releases tension in the muscles.

Horses working in the racing industry, including harness racing are particularly prone to tension in the muscles, leading to joint and muscle pain and respond well to the gentle Bowen Plus approach.

As humans we understand that we hold emotions in our bodies. This can be seen as tight shoulders, sore knees, hips or back. When our muscular/skeletal system is out of alignment, this affects the functioning of our internal organs. Conversely, when the muscular/skeletal system is in good alignment, the internal organs also fall into place, as it were, and function more effectively.

This holds true for horses as well. Bowen Plus works to align a horse's muscular/skeletal system and this in turn enables the horses internal organs - heart, liver, kidneys - to function more effectively. The result is that Bowen Plus supports horses on many levels - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Racing horses, because they tend to be sensitive and highly strung, are usually very responsive to Bowen Plus.

Other resonance remedies such as flower essences and herbs come in to support the Bowen Plus work for the time between sessions.

How can I tell whether my horse will benefit from Bowen Plus?
When we are riding a horse or driving a horse, the rider or driver is able to see whether the horse has a weakness on one side or is out of balance. Dressage riders know how the horse is moving and know themselves whether the horse needs balancing. Bowen Plus is an ideal therapy to relieve pain in a horse for all these types of situation.

How many sessions are needed?
Usually a horse needs a number of sessions over a period of a few weeks to regain its natural balance and become pain-free.

It is important that the horse rests for a few days after each session so the timing of the sessions needs to be considered carefully to ensure that the horse has adequate time to heal.

What happens during a session?
First I ask the horse’s permission or consent as to whether the horse wants to have the therapy/treatment. The horse usually gives me a very definite Yes or No. If the horse doesn’t give its consent, then I won’t proceed further. It’s not an automatic right to go ahead and treat a horse. They may not want to be released from muscle pain.

There is a procedure and guidelines to follow. I will place my hands in certain positions and move my thumbs to create pressure on key areas. Doing this in textbook fashion may not meet the horse’s needs so I listen to the horse and ask where I should start, which side, where to place my hands.

Sometimes the horse may actually want me to be working at a distance; so that is more subtle. When you have a horse that is highly sensitive it may be too overwhelming for it to have its skin touched. So for the first meeting I could stand some distance away from the horse but still in sight. Because I’m there to honour the horse and listen it, if I force anything onto the horse, I’d only be doing it for myself, not for the horse.

With another practitioner, I am offering Bowenplus treatments for a horse within the racing industry. My counterpart is offering Bowen therapies to the jockey. Certainly, in the local area, this will be the first time for a jockey or driver and a racehorse/trotter/harnessracer to be given such an advantage in experiencing the benefits of Bowenplus and Bowen. How will it improve your performance? Be the first to call to experience for yourself, the benefits of receiving these treatments.
